I passionately believe that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children and happy families.
However, when it comes to sleep I do not believe there is a one-size-fits-all solution. If there was, don’t you think everyone would be sleeping well?
Learning healthy sleep habits is like learning to swim or ride a bike. You probably wouldn’t just drop your child off at the pool and yell ‘good luck’ out the window as you drive off.
You would support and encourage them through the process. Because learning new things can be hard. Yet, you probably wouldn’t do this in the same manner as every other parent out there. It is the same with sleep.
Every child and every family is different. Taking those differences into account when creating a plan to make changes to your child’s sleep habits is imperative.
When you entrust me to help you solve the sleep struggles with your precious little one, I take the trust you are putting in me very seriously.
We are going to be a team. Whether you are in the Denver area, the western slope of Colorado, California, New York City or anywhere else across the country. We are both on team ‘let’s sleep better at your house’!
You will be the expert about your child and your family. Then, I will take the knowledge and insight you share with me to create a personalized sleep plan using evidence based-methods in a way that feels comfortable for your family.
The bottom line is that you, as a parent, need to feel confident in your sleep plan so you can compassionately support your baby, toddler, or young child in learning the skills to sleep well.
What to expect when you team up with me as your sleep consultant
I will guide you through looking at the whole picture of your child’s sleep. (Hint: it is not just about the time your child is asleep!) This will help you and your child be set up for success from the very beginning.
Next, we will talk through your child’s personalized, step-by-step plan, including discussing why we are taking these steps for your child based on what you shared with me about your child. This will help you feel confident about how we are going to reach your sleep goals and what you can expect along the way.
Then you will have me with you every step of the way on your journey to your child sleeping well and getting the sleep they need to thrive. The walkie-talkie support options will allow us to communicate back and forth quickly, no matter what our busy days look like.
Yup, you can easily shoot me a message while you are chasing after your toddler at the park! I may respond while folding the never ending piles of laundry that seems to define life with kids!
We will troubleshoot, answer questions, evaluate progress, discuss adjustments that need to be made, and of course, celebrate the successes along the way as we work to achieve your sleep goals as quickly as possible with as little stress as possible for everyone!
Let's Talk about the Crying Question
People always ask me whether my sleep plans involve “crying-it-out.” It is an important and valid question that deserves to be addressed here.
I will NOT ask you to put your baby to bed and leave them until morning to cry-it-out and figure it out all on their own.
Making changes to your baby’s sleep habits is a big change for them. No one really loves change and babies are no different. So, your baby will have their opinions and feelings about the change. Babies express these emotions and protest the change through crying and fussing.
Therefore yes, there will likely be some crying. We will work to minimize protesting and crying by creating a personalized sleep support plan you feel comfortable with based on what you know about your child so you can compassionately support them in learning the skills to sleep well.
